The future of AutoCAD (OEM) and .NET Technology

We have since the introduction of .NET Core received questions about whether it will be supported by AutoCAD (OEM) and the managed API that is part of the ObjectARX SDK.
In case you did not know, there’s ongoing work improving .NET support for future releases of AutoCAD (OEM) and this announcement was made just two days ago:

Like explained in that blog post, you can participate by signing up for the ‘Autodesk Feedback Community’ to get access to both Alpha and Beta versions of future AutoCAD releases supporting .NET versions >= 6.

A short clarification of the terminology above:

  • .NET Framework is the original implementation of .NET. It supports running websites, services, desktop apps, and more on Windows. The AutoCAD host application and the managed APIs of the ObjectARX SDK were targeting .NET Framework until current release 2024.
  • .NET is a cross-platform implementation for running websites, services, and console apps on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
.NET was previously called .NET Core.
