BIM Exchange option causes installer to fail

Inventor OEM 2025: When BIM Exchange is checked in the OEM Configurator, the installer shows “Preparing…” followed by the error:

“An error occurred while preparing for installation. Please exit and start the install again.”

When BIM Exchange is unchecked before building the deployment it installs correctly.

Analysis/Solution: The root cause is because of the default Windows UAC setting which prevents the RX folder from being installed into the expected location.

Disabling UAC entirely will resolve the issue. However, if you need to maintain your current UAC level, please follow the workaround below before creating the customized installer:

  • Open an Administrator Command Prompt.

  • Run the OEMSupportFiles.msi installation from this prompt.

This ensures the RX folder is correctly installed to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Inventor OEM 2026 Support\en-US\x64
