Optimized way to convert large Navisworks files (1–3 GB) to SCS/SCZ

Hello TechSoft3D team,

I am working with very large Navisworks files (1–3 GB) and trying to convert them into SCS and SCZ formats. During the conversion, it consumes a lot of RAM and takes a long processing time.

Is there any optimized way to handle this?

  • Recommended workflow for large Navisworks files?

  • Any converter settings to reduce memory usage?

  • Best practices for SCS and SCZ conversion?

Looking forward to your guidance.

Thanks,

For large files (> 1GB+), conversion time can indeed be long. Unfortunately, there aren’t many settings to minimize this as all the source data (geometry, attributes, materials, assembly tree, etc.) needs to be converted to a different file format (SC/SCZ/SCZ).

Our recommendation here is to be a bit more judicious for the converter options. That is, rather than running/front-loading one converter instance with many output files (STEP + SCZ + SCS + etc), you can just generate an SCZ and have that available and ready to load. On a subsequent conversion operation, you can add the other options.
