Query on Mesh Merging & Refinement for Large Models in HOOPS Exchange & Communicator

Hello Tech Soft 3D Team,

We are working with very large CAD/3D models and are using HOOPS Exchange + HOOPS Communicator for conversion and visualization.

I would like to check:

  1. In HOOPS Exchange, is there support for mesh merging — specifically, if we have a large model, can we convert it into a single mesh instead of many sub-meshes?

  2. Does Exchange or Communicator provide options for mesh refinement/simplification (reducing polygon count while preserving geometry fidelity)?

  3. If available, can these be controlled through Exchange conversion settings (e.g., SC/SCZ generation) or only by using post-processing APIs in Communicator?

  4. Are there recommended workflows in Exchange to optimize large models before sending them to Communicator for viewing?

Looking forward to your guidance.

Thanks & Regards,

Hello,

Please find below answers to your questions:

  1. There is no specific function for merging multiple meshes into a single mesh.
  2. Converter does have the option --generate_LODs to control polygon count/level-of-detail.
  3. An LOD example is provided in the Communicator package via the quickstart module:
  1. There really isn’t an optimization feature available prior to conversion.

Thanks,
Tino
