Does Hoops provide API service for converting 2D technical drawing into 3D Model and how?

First off, welcome to the forum! The short answer to your question is, no we don’t have an API for that. Could you tell me more about what you’re trying to accomplish? That way maybe we can point you in the right direction.

Hi Gabe,
Our company has a requirement to automate converting 2D technical drawings into 3D model. We are looking for any third party tool API service or interface to integrate with our application to converting 2D drawings to 3D model instantly. Our idea is when the user uploads file of any format containing 2D drawing, backend an interface(third party API service) has to process to convert into 3D Model and give the output to the user in 3D model.

as Gabe mentioned we don’t have an API to do that though you can of course use HOOPS Exchange to read 2D drawings of various formats, extract the parametric and non parametric data and then use that to build a 3D model yourself. There is also some 2D to 3D software out there that you might be already aware of like FlexiDesign but I don’t think they have an API service. Doing this kind of conversion fully automated without user guidance/intervention won’t be possible in my opinion in a lot of cases.

U mentioned that one can use HOOPS Exchange to read 2D drawings of various formats, extract the parametric and non parametric data. What does parametric and non parametric data mean? Do you mean reading dimensions of 2D drawings? Can you please clarify on that.

Hi Rashmi,

Yes. In most cases you should be able to read the dimensions as well as PMI and other information connected to the drawing but it will depend on the format. My suggestion would be to do an evaluation and test this functionality yourself.
